Bord Pleanála Oral Hearing ends.

The An Bord Pleanála's Oral Hearing into the application for plannning permission for the proposed N2 Slane Bypass finally ended today. Proceedings finally came to a close at 8.45pm that evening having begun at 10am that morning. It was a major relief, to some participants at least, that the hearing had finally come to a close.

The Bord Pleanála Inspectors were unable to give any indication of when their report might be completed nor were they in a position to indicate when the board of Bord Pleanála might make a decision on the application. Inspector Mairead Kenny of An Bord Pleanála explained that in a normal Strategic Infrastructural Development (SID) project, there is an obligation on Bord Pleanála to stick to an 18-week timeframe but given the sensitivities involved and the unusual nature of the present situation it is highly likely that the deliberations will take a lot longer. There is even a possibility that further information may be sought either by the Inspectors or by the board of Bord Pleanála. So it looks like we will have to wait...again. However, we are very used to waiting in Slane as we have had a lot of practice over years now.

Many parties chose to make final statements to the Inspectors including the Bypass Slane Campaign, the Slane Bridge Action Group and a number of others from the Slane community who eventually were able to speak at around 6pm, having waited since the opening of proceedings that morning.
